Off the Grid

During the summer of 2019, I looked at my bookmarked places to go in Quebec for a getaway weekend. There popped up Terra Perma, a growing residential and eco- entrepreneur permaculture community in the heart of the Laurentian.

Part of the project is a vacation center, that allows one curious mind to find out about the larger project. We fall into its charm. That nature that was calling us, was there and Terra Perma was designed with principles that aligns with our values. Simply nature, with a well integrated living habitat, respectful of the surroundings. A community where a handful of hard working people made it possible to live in nature simply.

We refer to it as camping, because of the mental break that comes with living off the grid for a weekend. But imagine a place where there are no obstacles: No boat noise on the lake, no one to check you in as you borrow the canoes, simply trust of a small print note in the cabin which read to leave 10$ before you leave if you use the canoe. The people we met there as we walk the forest paths were always interesting individuals, smiling, open to chat with us as if social connection takes priority over their daily permaculture tasks.

Actually, the power of nature, coupled with inspiring conversations refreshed our minds so much, that we came back to the city with a little light in our soul. We were going to come back to this special place.

On our second trip, which was the following month, we arranged for a walk to see a few lots in the forest to purchase along with a few other ecologically minded enthusiasts. In December 2019, we bought a piece of land within the Terra Perma residential community. A small piece of land in the forest to start dreaming.

These photos are at the TerraPerma vacation center. Check it out!
